Wellness, recovery conference is today

The keynote speaker will be Peter Ashenden of Chicago, the president of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. It's a patient-directed national organization that focuses on the most common mental illnesses.

He'll talk about his personal story of recovery and how "wellness" played a part in that, said Rob Bishop, human services supervisor for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Region 1 Adult Behavioral Health.

The cost to attend the event is $15, which includes a gluten-free lunch prepared by Pilgrim's Natural Foods market.

Registration starts at 8 a.m.; the event concludes at 4 p.m.

Peter Ueberroth to speak at ICF luncheon

The Idaho Community Foundation will host its first regional luncheon in Coeur d'Alene this month with guest speaker Peter Ueberroth.

Ueberroth served as the chairman of the United States Olympic Committee, commissioner of Major League Baseball and organizer of the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including 1984 Man of the Year from Time Magazine

The Women's Gift Alliance will be honored as Friends of the Foundation and Kinderhaven in Sandpoint is the featured nonprofit.

"The annual luncheon in Boise has been a wonderful ICF tradition for more than 20 years," said Bob Hoover, ICF president and CEO. "But we noticed that it was mainly attended by people from the Treasure Valley. We want to make sure we thank our supporters all over the state so we are taking the luncheon to them."

The Idaho Community Foundation assists hundreds of nonprofits throughout Idaho in supporting families and seniors, advancing the arts, protecting animals, preserving the environment and much more.

In 2009, ICF gave nearly $5 million in grants, scholarships and distributions to schools and charitable organizations from its more than 400 funds.

The luncheon is Aug. 26 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort. Tickets are $40 per person. Check-in is at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon begins at noon.

To register go to www.idcomfdn.org or call (208) 342-3535. Deadline to register is Aug. 19.
