COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene Homes Assisted Living and Memory Care recently received a $13,000 donation from its auxiliary.

"We have incredible volunteers in the auxiliary," said Ann Johnson, director of development and marketing at Coeur d'Alene Homes. "Their commitment to support our mission is such an inspiration and we are so appreciative of their work."

Treasurer of the Auxiliary, Eileen Cresswell, presented the check. The monies are earmarked for Coeur d'Alene Homes' Scholarship Program and Legacy Project.

"The Legacy Project has many elements, one being to create Legacy Books to pay tribute to our residents and their life stories," Johnson said. "These stories are shared in personalized scrapbooks and presented to each resident during a special honor ceremony with family and friends. And the scholarships are available to our staff and help pay for tuition at NIC or other specialized training courses."

The Auxiliary consists of volunteers from the churches connected to Coeur d'Alene Homes.

"People need to realize the auxiliary is made up of ordinary people like you and me," said Shirley Belstad, president of the auxiliary. "We work hard, but we have a lot of fun raising money for Coeur d'Alene Homes because we believe it's a great cause. We've raised nearly half a million dollars since we began in 1973."

Currently the auxiliary is recruiting new members who would like to volunteer a few hours each month to help at the Trading Post Thrift Store or at estate and moving sales. If you would like to volunteer, call Shirley at 664-2965 or Mary Olson at 664-3841.

The 23 area churches that corporately own Coeur d'Alene Homes provide leadership, volunteers and funds to support the nonprofit's mission to provide a faith based, loving home that honors older adults through assisted living as well as memory care.
