The Coeur d'Alene Sting under-12 boys (Vrendenburg) traveled to Seattle over the weekend to participate in the Starfire Xtreme Cup, winning the championship in their age group.

The Sting opened with Synergy FC Orange in the first game and won 3-1. Goals were scored by Ezra Grossglauser, Cole Fawcett on an assist from Travis Swallow and another goal by Justin Kofmehl.

Later that same day, the Sting defeated the Tusk Lightning 7-0 on three goals by Travis Swallow, two goals by Nolan Mullen-Huber and single goals from Riley Glover and Grossglauser. Assists in the game came from: Swallow, Brayden Lanphere, Braden Farrar and Mullen-Huber.

On Sunday morning, the Sting played the Tracyton Storm and won 4-1. Goals were scored by Ezra Grossglauser and three from Swallow. Assists in the game came from Swallow, Connor Shaw and Cole Fawcett.

In the championship game on Sunday afternoon, the Sting defeated Seattle United White 5-0. Swallow had two goals, and Braden Farrar, Ezra Grossglauser and Brayden Lanphere added one each. Swallow also had two assists, with Callen Trapp and Grossglauer with one apiece.

n BASEBALL

The Bayview Whitecaps U-15 finished third in the Pacific Northwest regional tournament over the weekend at Klamath Falls, Ore., losing to eventual champion Kelso, Wash., in a semifinal game on Sunday.

In their first game in pool pay, the Whitecaps defeated Missoula 8-3 last Tuesday.

Chadley Miller went 3 for 5 in the win with two RBIs. Jeremy McKinney went 1 for 4 with a two-run single for Bayview.

Bayview fell in its next game 7-5 to Alberta, Canada, as Charlie Carr hit a two-run double and Johnny Hayden went 2 for 3 with two doubles in the loss.

Troy Carr went 4 for 5 with three RBIs and McKinney went 4 for 5 as Bayview fell to Kitsap, Wash., 7-5 in 10 innings.

Bayview defeated Southcoast Oregon 4-3 on Saturday to advance to the semifinals as Casey Rogsdad had five strikeouts. Miller went 3 for 4 with a single and double and Jeremy McKinney had two doubles for Bayview.

In the semifinal against Kelso, Wash., McKinney and Jesse Marks each went 3 for 4 with two singles and a double for Bayview.

The team is comprised of players from Rathdrum, Spirit Lake, Athol and Bayview.
