SOFTBALL

SPOKANE - The Coeur d'Alene Crush '97 fell in a loser-out game 12-5 to the Visalia, Calif., Outlaws to finish ninth out of 34 teams in the ASA "A" Western national tournament at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex on Saturday.

Kylie Rasmussen went 2 for 2 for the Crush, who fell victim to a nine-run third and could not recover.

"We were ahead for the first three innings," Crush coach Garry Stark said. "We couldn't get anything working right in that third inning, but at least we took them to seven innings."

In earlier action Saturday, the Crush defeated the Auburn Acers 8-6.

Bryce Catt went 3 for 3 and Mariah Montee 3 for 4 for the Crush.

"It was great playing against that kind of competition," Stark said of the tournament. "These California teams, to see there demeanor, they were more business-like and used to playing the game. This tournament is really a stepping stone to get these girls ready to do bigger and better things."

Analisa Raynor went 4 for 4 with three runs scored in Coeur d'Alene's 15-6 win over the Spokane Crash late Friday.

BASEBALL

Post Falls Juniors went late at the Western Regional tournament at Laguna Niguel, Calif., and no scores were reported.
