Shock hosting title game Thursday

The National Conference championship game will kickoff Thursday at 5 p.m. between the Spokane Shock and the Milwaukee Iron at the Spokane Arena.

Spokane advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 57-49 win over the Arizona Rattlers on Friday at the Spokane Arena.

It is the Shock's first Arena Football League conference championship appearance.

Cougars open fall practice today

The Washington State Cougars football team opens fall camp today with a 2 p.m. practice at Rodgers Field. WSU rookies reported to campus Friday, while returning veterans reported Saturday.

The Cougars will open with helmets-only practices on the first two days and add shoulder pads on Day 3.

The first practice in full pads will be Thursday.

Washington State, which is looking to improve on last season's 1-11 record, opens with Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Sept. 4.

Locals earn bid to Idaho Junior Golf tournament

The Idaho Golf Association released rankings going into the upcoming state tournament, to be held Aug. 16-17 at Bryden Canyon Golf Course in Lewiston.

Golfers are ranked in three differentials in each age group to determine the players for the state tournament. The top third in each age group receive invitations to the tournament.

Top ranked locals include: Kaceelyn Pouttu of Kellogg, Derek Bayley of Rathdrum and Alex Pounds of Hayden.

Other local girls qualifying include: Age 10 - Jordan Jaeger (top ranked), Kylie Esh; Age 11 - Rashelle Stricklin (top ranked); Age 13 - Sami Jo Spring; Age 15 - Pouttu (top ranked); Girls 16-18 - Madeline Dodge, Danny Jagelski, Kayla Kirk.

Boys qualifiers are: Age 9 - Trey Sharp; Age 10 - Treyton Forsman, Tyler Gibbons, Cade Finlay, Hogan Samuelson; Age 12 - Jacob Jaeger; Age 14 - Bayley (top ranked), Trevor Fedele, Kenny Dodge, Stephen Roller; Age 15 - Michael Porter, John Duffin, Andrew Dodge, Kyle Kaufman; Age 17-18 - Pounds (top ranked), Andrew Roller, Jayce Yoshida, Spencer Skipper, Daniel Masterson.
