NIC students excel in Boise

Students of North Idaho College's Collision Repair Technology program took home three of six medals given out at the annual Idaho Skills USA competition in Boise last spring.

NIC competed among 35 other college contestants in hands-on categories, including small dent repair, refinishing, estimating, structural analysis, plastic repair and welding. Participants were also judged on their performance on a written test, interview and resume.

"We are the only one-year program in the state. We are always the underdogs going into the competition," said Cal DeHaas, NIC collision repair technology instructor. "I was extremely proud of the way our students competed."

D.J. Simpson, Post Falls, won a second place medal in the Refinishing category. Dwayne Wietzke, Sandpoint, won second place in the Collision category and Gregg Miller, Spirit Lake, won third place in the same category.

Collision Repair Technology is a 10-month professional-technical program at NIC.
