Vicky F. Thorp, 78, resident of Coeur d’ Alene, died Aug. 1, 2010

following a seven-month battle with lung, pancreas and liver cancer.

She was born May 6, 1932 to Charles “Babe”  and Frances (Harper)

Burrell at Cape Girardeau, Mo.  Her young life was spent living in

DesMoines, Iowa, Benton, Ill., Indekpendence, Kansas City and St.

Louis, Mo. as well as Florida.

She was married in 1950. The marriage produced a son David, who was

born in Kansas City. The marriage ended in 1953. She moved back to

Kansas City following the divorce and then to Southern California in

1956. She made her home in Venice, Calif., and worked for a gambling

casino in Gardena, Calif. She moved to El Monte, Calif. in 1959 where

she met the love of her life, Marshall Thorp. They were married on

July 25, 1959. Two sons were born to that union. She moved to Baldwin

Park and then to Glendora, Calif., when her husband was accepted to

the California Highway Patrol and went to their academy. They made

their home at Carlsbad, Calif., until 1972, when they moved to

Plummer, where her husband took a position with the Idaho State

Police.

She worked for Pacific Crown Mill at Plummer as well as several

doctors in Spokane Valley. In 1977, she worked as a dispatcher and

jailer for the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office. She lived in St.

Maries from 1979 to 1982 and moved to Rocky Point in 1982. She

worked for Dr. John Snedden and later Dr. John Thomson, two St. Maries

dentists, as a dental assistant.

She went to work for the Benewah Medical Center six months after it

opened. She  was nominated for an award for her work in the billing

department, which she traveled to Washington D.C. to receive. She left

the medical center in 1995. In 1989, she moved back to St. Maries to a

home on the St. Joe River. In 2001, she and her husband moved to

Coeur d’ Alene.

 She was a member of the Rowdy Red Hats and the Shanghai Lillies

Organizations, both of Coeur d’ Alene.

 She is survived by her husband at the family home in Coeur d’ Alene;

sons David (Joanne) of Nampa, Marshall Jr. (Marcie) of Denver , and

Douglas (Nancy) of St. Maries; her favorite uncle Fred (Sharon) Smith

of Coeur d’Alene, her sister Ruth Ann (Gil) Reel of Coeur d’Alene, and

cousin Joyce Ann (Dennis) DeLaRosa of Post Falls.  Also surviving are

grandchildren Theresa Meachum of Genessee, Nichole Beebower of Coeur

d’Alene, Jennifer Thorp, Harrison, Cassandra Thorp , St. Maries,

Charyse Thorp and Hailie Thorp both of Encinitas, Calif., Andrea Jean

Hopwood of Nampa, Maria Cunningham of Pasco, Wash., Kennneth

Walker of Post Falls,  Olivia Rose and Marshall III, both of Denver and

seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her

parents.

 A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in August or

September, which will be announced. The family suggests memorials to

either Hospice of North Idaho 9493 Government Way, Hayden, ID
