Flag retirement Saturday in PF

A flag retirement will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at VFW Post 3603 in Post Falls.

Anyone with a flag that needs to be retired can drop it off at the post at 1207 Third Ave. between 9 and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Boy's cause of death not yet determined

The official cause has not yet been determined in the death last weekend of a 12-year-old boy in Coeur d'Alene.

Coeur d'Alene police officers responded to the victim's home Sunday evening.

Sgt. Christie Wood reported the victim appears to have succumbed to asphyxiation, but they are still awaiting results of an autopsy.

Spirit Lake man dies in car accident

SPIRIT LAKE - An 18-year-old Spirit Lake man died after a head-on collision on State Highway 41, north of Spirit Lake.

Idaho State Police reported that Mathew S. Rocheleau was southbound on Highway 41 at 5:51 p.m. Thursday when the Dodge Caravan he was driving drifted into the northbound lanes for an unknown reason.

The Caravan collided head-on with a Dodge Dakota driven by Franklin B. Gausnell, 40, of Blanchard. The collision occurred near milepost 22.

Rocheleau was pronounced dead on the scene, police reported, while Gausnell was taken to Kootenai Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Police reported that Rocheleau was not wearing a seat belt, while Gausnell was wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
