Accident claims Spirit Lake 18-year-old man

An 18-year-old Spirit Lake man was killed in a head-on accident on

Highway 41 north of the city late Thursday afternoon.

Idaho State Police reported Mathew Rocheleau was traveling south on

the highway in a 1997 Dodge Caravan when for an unknown reason he

drifted into the northbound lanes, colliding head on with Franklin

Gausnell who was traveling north in a 2001 Dodge Dakota. Rocheleau was

pronounced dead at the scene. Gausnell, 40, of Blanchard, was

transported to Kootenai Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Investigation is pending. ISP reported Gausnell was wearing a

seatbelt, but Rocheleau was not.
