BASEBALL

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - Braden Davenport pitched six strong innings as the Post Falls Juniors (13-14) defeated Cedar City, Utah, 7-4 in their second game in pool play at the Western Regional tournament on Wednesday.

Davenport struck out six for Post Falls, which improved to 1-1 in the six-team pool.

"We played much better than Tuesday," Post Falls coach Chad Davenport said. "They threw pretty hard, but we were able to hit them and did pretty well. Our pitching was the key today and we were able to put some runs on the board."

Nick Hall hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to put the game away for Post Falls.

"We've got three more games this week and we've got to start hitting the ball a little harder," Davenport said. "I think the kids realized we can compete down here. Today's the best pitching we've seen and we hit them."

J.D. Sullivan also went 2 for 4 for Post Falls, which faces Southern California today at 1 p.m.
