Norma Ruth Serene, 97

Norma Ruth Serene, 97, passed away July 30, 2010 at her daughter's home, in Post Falls. She was born May 25, 1913 in Wabasha, Minn., to Robert and Della (Pugh) Braun. Norma married Louis H. Serene on Oct. 24, 1944 in New York City and moved to the area in 2000. She was a member of First Christian Church, Coeur d'Alene. She expressed her many talents through painting, gardening, nutritional cooking, writing, music and volunteering.

Norma is survived by stepsons; Edward Kurath of Post Falls and Thomas P. Serene, D.D.S. of Carlsbad, Calif., stepson-in-law: Dave Starnes of Redding, Calif., great-grandson, Ryan J. Gross of Spokane, daughter; Kay Kurath of Post Falls, stepdaughter Carol Starnes of Redding, Calif., step-daughter-in-law; Clyone Serene of Carlsbad, Calif., granddaughters; Heather (Robert) Gross of Spokane, and Michelle (Scott) Tomy of Seattle and great-granddaughter; Taylor R. Gross of

Spokane. Norma is preceded in death by her husband Louis H. Serene in 2002; mother Della Braun; father Robert Braun; sisters Lorraine Schurhammer, Maude Bastian, Della Carr, Marne Braun, Doris Eckstrom and Ann Longley; and brother Buddy Braun.
