DOLEZAL: Victim of discrimination?
Something is awry at HREI. Rachel Dolezal, who has been the heart and soul of the Human Rights Education Institute, has resigned, citing discrimination as part of the reason. Over the past two years I have volunteered at HREI giving approximately eight hours per week. During that time I have assisted Rachel on project after project that has benefited the advancement of the “Cause” (referring to the advancement of human rights).
I have seen Rachel targeted by hate groups and stand her ground. I have seen Rachel actively take “head on” issues that affect minority groups negatively that most would turn away from. Being an activist and standing her ground has garnered her publicity.
Recently the Director of Operations resigned her post leaving Rachel alone as the only HREI staff for a bit. She upped her production and continued. A “Director of Development” was hired to assist in fundraising for the institute. Shortly after his hire his title was changed to “Executive Director” which was the job Rachel had applied for at the beginning of her employment with HREI.
Is it just me or does anyone else question this? I have put my volunteering at HREI on “hold” until I trust that Rachel isn’t being discriminated against by an organization whose mission is to promote human rights as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
