Gayle Jean Young Lee, 59

Gayle Jean Young Lee, 59, of Rigby, died April 22, 2010, in Tongatapu, Tonga.

She was born March 28, 1951, in Coeur d’Alene, to Harden Douglas Young and Hannah Jean Thatcher Young.

She was raised and attended schools in Coeur d’Alene, graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School. She continued her education at North Idaho College, Gonzaga University, Florida Atlantic University and the University of Idaho, and received her Ph.D. and CNP. She served in the U.S. Army Reserves and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

On April 7, 1972, she married Gary J. Lee, in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they had five children. Gayle worked as a nurse and nurse practitioner for various clinics and hospitals in the Greater Idaho Falls area, and as a professor of nursing at BYU-I at the time of her death.

Gayle was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including; Stake Relief Society President, Stake YW President, Temple Worker and Gospel Doctrine Teacher.

Gayle enjoyed her grandchildren, music and teaching.

She is survived by her husband, Gary J. Lee of Rigby; daughters Gwen (Byron “Ted”) Buthman of Rigby, Gena (Owen) Hamilton, Ginger (Brandon) Longhurst, Genelle (Aaron) Taylor, all of Idaho Falls; a son, Gary (Nina) Lee of Navarre, Fla.; brothers Doug (Vicki) Young of Coeur d’Alene, Jon (Leslie ) Young of Lewisville, Texas, Kent (Mary) Young of Sumner, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Ririe Stake Center in Ririe, with Bishop John Roberts, conducting. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com.
