North Idaho has more than a score of golf courses, all built since the Bozanta Tavern opened in 1910. That course is now known as the Hayden Lake Country Club.

That course is now known as the Hayden Lake Country Club.

They range from small-town courses to world golf attractions, such as the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course’s floating green. Scenic vistas abound at the various courses.

Over the years, various public and private courses have sprung up, ranging from no-frills greens for the occasional player to world-class courses for those who take the game very seriously.

The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course

Home to the world’s only Floating Green, the par 3 14th island hole is the highlight of this pristine golf course on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. The 18-hole, par-71 course is located on the east end of the lake and measures 6,757 yards from the championship tees. It includes an award-winning pro shop and restaurant. The Highlands Golf Course

This course, visible from Interstate 90 at Exit 7, overlooks Post Falls and the Rathdrum Prairie. The 18-hole course measures 6,369 yards and has a par of 72, plus a driving range, restaurant and a practice area with grass tees. Tee times are arranged a week in advance.

Avondale Golf Club

A par-72, 6,573-yard course north of Coeur d’Alene in Hayden Lake, this 18-hole course includes a driving range, a pro shop, and a fully stocked bar and restaurant with a chef on staff.

Avondale is a semi-private club open to the public. Tee times can be booked at any time.

The Coeur d’Alene Golf Club

This tree-lined, par-72, 6,295-yard course (from the back tees) sits on the western edge of Coeur d’Alene. This 18-hole course also has a driving range. Tee times should be reserved two days in advance for weekdays. Weekend tee times are taken on Thursday morning. Information: 765-0218

Hayden Lake Country Club

This par-71, 6,300- yard, private course offers views of Hayden Lake. Tee times are booked a week in advance.

The Club at Black Rock

This private course is part of the Black Rock development on the southwest side of Lake Coeur d’Alene. The 18-hole, par-72 course has total yardage of 7,130, along with a practice range and full-service clubhouse, no cart fee.

Circling Raven

The par-72 course is a 45-minute drive from Spokane International Airport, easily accessible yet just far enough from civilization. The 7,189 yard Gene Bates design takes full advantage of its stunning setting, where pine-draped mountains, forested meadows and protected wetlands surround the occasional elk or moose may ask to play through. Circling Raven also boasts a 25-acre practice facility with driving range. Tee times are arranged a month in advance.

Ponderosa Springs Golf Course

This nine-hole, par-27 course measures 1,160 yards and features warm-up nets, a practice putting green and batting cages. The course is on French Gulch Road in Coeur d’Alene. No tee times are required.

Shoshone Golf Club

Set on a hilltop off the Big Creek exit of Interstate 90 between Kellogg and Wallace, it’s a nine-hole course with two sets of tees on each hole. Total yardage is 6,405 for 18 holes. Par is 72 for men, 74 for women. Reservations are suggested.

Prairie Falls Golf Club

This 18-hole course measures 6,200 yards with a par of 70. The course is on Spokane Street in Post Falls, just north of Poleline Avenue. A driving range and practice facility are also on site, as well as a restaurant with a full bar. Reservations are allowed a week in advance.

The Links Golf Club

This semi-private course, just north of Post Falls on Chase Road is a links-style course with wide-open fairways, and long holes. The longest hole is the 777- yard, par-6, ninth hole. The 18-hole course has a grass tee driving range, restaurant and pro shop. It measures 7,450 yards with a par of 72.

Stoneridge Golf Course

This 19-hole par-71 course includes a driving range and a full restaurant. Stoneridge is 35 miles northwest of Coeur d’Alene just off Highway 41. It measures 6,684 yards from the blue tees, 6,116 yards from the white tees and 5,225 from the reds. Greens average 7,200 square feet. In 2001, the course was completely renovated by architect Frank Burandt, formerly of Nicklaus Design, and in 2005 added to the Northern Loop of the esteemed Idaho Golf Trail.

Pinehurst Golf Course

Situated at Pinehurst in the Silver Valley, this is a nine-hole course with 18 tees. Total yardage is 5,988 for men and 5,499 for women. Par is 72 for men, 74 for women.

Twin Lake Village Golf Course

This 18-hole course is at Twin Lakes Village north of Rathdrum on Highway 41. The par-72 course is 6,277 yards long, and a driving range is available. Twin Lakes also has a full-service restaurant. Reservations are taken a week in advance.

Sandpoint Elks Lodge and Golf Course

This nine-hole public course, one mile north of Sandpoint on Highway 200 in Ponderay has a par of 35. There are separate tees for those wishing to play the same nine holes twice. The course measures roughly 2,900 yards on the front side, 2,700 yards on the back. Warm-up nets and a putting green are available.

The Idaho Club

Formerly Hidden Lakes Golf Resort, this newly-redesigned 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course is located eight miles east of Sandpoint on Highway 200. The par 71 course measures 7,100 yards from the tips. The club includes a driving range, putting and chipping greens plus a dining area and a Wine room/Chef’s Table. Aiming to cater to the whole family, they offer a spacious, rustic lodge, extensive hiking trails, Lake Club and Marina, Resort-style swimming pool, tennis and sport courts, club spa and fitness center, kids camp, junior golf and tennis, private party facilities, concierge services, canoeing and kayaking on the river, and a float plane available for transport from Spokane, or sightseeing tours.

Mirror Lake Course

This nine-hole public course sits just south of Bonners Ferry on U.S. 95. The par-72 course features two sets of tees per hole, measures 2,885 yards on the front nine and 3,085 on the back.

Ranch Club Golf Course and Restaurant

A nine-hole, 2,510-yard course just west of Priest River on Highway 2, the course is par 33 for men, 36 for women. It also has a full-service restaurant.

Priest Lake Golf Course

Located at Lamb Creek, par 72 for 18 holes. It measures 6,500 yards. The course also includes a driving range, practice putting green, plus full bar and grill.

St. Maries Golf Course

The nine-hole, par 70 layout is about a half-mile south of St. Maries on Highway 3 at 900 Golf Course Road. It measures 5,458 yards for men and 4,891 yards for women.
