Bear Paw Quilting gets national exposure

Bear Paw Quilting and Bernina, a quilt shop in Coeur d'Alene, was chosen as one of the 10 featured shops across the U.S. and Canada for the Spring 2010 issue of Quilt Samplers magazine, published by Better Homes and Gardens.

The magazine, published twice a year, has profiled North America's top quilt shops for 13 years. The shops provide an application on their history, business promotions, charitable work, teaching schedules and designed philosophies. A panel of quilt experts narrows the applications to 10 shops for each issue.

The names are kept secret until the spring or fall International Quilt Market. Each of the shops is photographed and interviewed by a team from the magazine. The employees of each shop also design an original quilt for the magazine, and the full-sized pattern appears in the publication.

The spring edition will also include a section that features The Coeur d'Alene Resort, The Cedars floating restaurant, Hudson's Hamburgers and The Route of the Hiawatha. It is scheduled to be available on newsstands on May 11, and Bear Paw will have copies available this week. The shop is at 600 W. Kathleen Ave.

Century 21 Beutler agents earn certification

A pair of Realtors with Century 21 Beutler & Associates Coeur d'Alene offices earned the nationally recognized Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource (SFR) certification from the National Association of Realtors.

Hap Hilbish and Jacques Lemieux completed the certification program that included training on how to qualify sellers for short sales, negotiate with lenders, protect buyers, limit risk and additional resources to help stay current on national and state-specific information as the market for these distressed properties evolves. The certification's education requirements included a core course and three Webinars.

Hilbish has been selling real estate in the Coeur d'Alene region for nearly 35 years and has been licensed as a broker or associate broker since 1977. He joined Century 21 Beutler & Associates in 1997. In addition to the SFR designation Hilbish holds professional designations as a Certified Residential Specialist, an Accredited Buyer Representative, Graduate Realtor Institute and Seniors Real Estate Specialist.

Lemieux specializes in residential and recreational properties in the Silver Valley.

According to a NAR survey, nearly one third of all existing homes sold recently were either short sales or foreclosures. For many real estate professionals, these are the new "traditional" transactions. Realtors who have earned the SFR certification know how to help sellers maneuver the complexities of short sales as well as help buyers pursue short sale and foreclosure opportunities.
