Cd'A kindergarten?registration is Tuesday

Registration is Tuesday, April 27, for children who will be attending kindergarten in the Coeur d'Alene School District this fall. A child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to be eligible.

Incoming first-graders who are new to the district are also asked to register that day.

Borah, Bryan, Dalton, Fernan, Hayden Meadows and Winton elementary schools will register children from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Children who live within the Sorensen Magnet School attendance zone will also register from 9:30 to noon at that school. Sorensen children will be screened on that day; other schools will conduct screenings on Aug. 24.

Five-year-olds who live in the Atlas, Ramsey and Skyway attendance zones will register at the Hayden Kinder Center at Government Way and Hayden Avenue. The Kinder Center asks that students with last names of A-L register between 9 and 11 a.m., and M-Z from 1 to 3 p.m.

Parents must bring the youngster's certified birth certificate, immunization record and proof of residency, such as a rent receipt or utility bill.

Avista: Boaters beware on Spokane River

POST FALLS - Avista is urging boaters to be extra careful when navigating the Spokane River above Post Falls this spring.

Because of low snow pack in the watershed, the river may be at unusual levels until after the runoff is completed.

Current water levels are between normal winter and summer seasonal elevations and the water is rising slowly. Boaters should be alert for shallow areas that can contain hidden obstacles such as rocks or wooden pilings.

The river and Lake Coeur d'Alene are expected to return to the normal summer level of 2,128 feet above sea level after the runoff is complete. Weather conditions will determine how quickly a return to summer elevation can occur.

Charity ride planned

A 4x4 charity run called "Wheeling for Kids," is scheduled at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Mill Public House restaurant and bar in Riverstone.

The course includes Coeur d'Alene, Hayden and Rathdrum.

Entry fee is $25 and includes a T-shirt, gift bag and dinner. Passengers are $15. Each vehicle is asked to have $50 in donations that will go to Children's Village. There will be a prize for most pledges, and door prizes.
