Ashburn tosses perfect game

SOFTBALL

POST FALLS - Richelle Ashburn struck out all 15 batters she faced as Post Falls defeated Moscow 13-0, 14-0 in a nonleague doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

"She had a great game," Post Falls coach Jack Foster said.

Ashburn also hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning, finishing the game with five RBIs.

In the second game, Rachel Collins struck out nine and also hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second in a 14-0 win.

"These were good games for us," Foster said. "We got a chance to swing the bats. We made them throw strikes and were patient at the plate."

Post Falls (10-5) will host Coeur d'Alene today in a makeup game.

POST FALLS - Morgan Cummings totaled five hits on the day as the Lumberjacks swept a nonleague doubleheader with the Post Falls JV.

Bree Arrhenius had five strikeouts in the first game for St. Maries.

"She threw real well for us today," St. Maries coach Todd Bitterman said. "Our offense was pretty evenly spread out."

Marlee Masterson hit a two-run home run in the second game for the Lumberjacks (8-5), who host Orofino on Friday.

"We came out swinging the bats well today," Lake City coach Laura Tolzmann said. "Kallie threw well for us on the mound."

Casey Stangel was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and Kory Kritz was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Lake City (11-4), which hosts Lewiston on Friday.

POST FALLS - Cody Clark went the distance in the first game for Post Falls, but the Trojans earned a split with Moscow in a nonleague doubleheader.

"We finally started breaking out the bats in the first game," Post Falls coach Mick Zeller said. "We started to string some hits together. Our defense bailed us out with some double plays."

Scott Reader and Taylor Valente had two hits apiece in the first game for Post Falls.

In the second game, Bryson Smith hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh for Post Falls (3-11), which travels to Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.
