COEUR d'ALENE - The Panhandle Symphony Orchestra, formerly the Fort Sherman Symphonette, will present its final concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 1765 W. Golf Course Road.

The orchestra is under the direction of Gerard Mathes, NIC music instructor and former conductor of the Coeur d'Alene Youth Orchestra. Admission to the concert is by donation.

The orchestra will present a wide variety of music on the program including the "American Salute" by Morton Gould, Beethoven's "Egmont Overture" and the "3rd Movement of Symphony No. 6," plus "Night on Bald Mountain" by Mussorgsky and selections from "The Sound of Music" by Richard Rogers.

Flutist Cynthia Horton will be featured on an arrangement of tunes from Bizet's "Carman."

The Panhandle Symphony, which began as the Fort Sherman Symphonette several years ago, is now under the management of a new board of directors.

Janet Haakenson is president of the new board.
