Andrew Cobetto, 84

Andrew Cobetto, 84, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away April 17, 2010. Born Aug. 23, 1925, in Caseyville, Ill., to George and Elizabeth (Ronco) Cobetto. He grew up on the family farm with his siblings: Lucille, Frank and Robert (Jim) Cobetto. 

Andy a WWII veteran enlisted in the Navy, November 1943. Stationed at USNTS Farragut Naval Base to be a Ship’s Cook Second Class in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He fought in the battles of Iwo Jima and Palau. Once lost at sea for three months on a small unmapped Pacific island. Another time he was shot out of a gun tub during an attack. Andy declined a Purple Heart Medal to not worry his parents. He was honorably discharged in May 1946.

Andy married Kathleen Sinclair in St. Louis, Mo., and had two daughters Cynthia and Sharon.

While living in California he worked in construction, with law enforcement and volunteer firefighting. He married Mona Byard, had his son Mike Cobetto, two stepsons Gary and Guy Forbes. Later he and sons moved to Coeur d’Alene and started his own construction business.

In 1972 he married Beulah Cobetto and moved to Hayden. In the 1980s he became a sheriff deputy for Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department. He retired in 1998 as Head of Animal Control.

Andy is preceded in death by his parents; sister Lucille Kombrink; brother Frank Cobetto; wives Kathleen and Beulah.

He is survived by children, Cynthia Sonnenschien and Sharon Walsh of St. Louis, Mo., Mike Cobetto of Coeur d’Alene; stepson Guy Forbes of Maple Grove, Minn.; grandchildren Bridgett, Kathleen, Casey, Brian, Mathew, Sarah, Brian, Stacey; eight great-grandchildren and brother Robert of Collinsville, Ill.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.
