Lake City scores 2 in fifth to beat Coeur d'Alene

COEUR d'ALENE - Katie Rowe went 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the second inning for the Lake City Timberwolves in a 3-2 victory over the visiting Coeur d'Alene Vikings in 5A Inland Empire League play Friday.

"We had a good day at the plate today," Lake City coach Laura Tolzmann said. "We hit the ball really well."

Amber Hawkes' RBI double in the fifth tied the game at 2 for Lake City (9-3, 4-2 5A IEL), and Kory Kritz scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.

Lindsie Scholwinski's RBI single in the fourth tied it at 1 for Coeur d'Alene (12-3, 2-2), which added a run on a fielder's choice later in the inning to take the lead.

Coeur d'Alene beat Lake City 2-0 on Wednesday in their first meeting of the season.

Casey Stangel struck out six for Lake City, which hosts Lakeland on Monday in a makeup game.

Scholwinski had two hits for Coeur d'Alene, which travels to Lake City on Tuesday.

SPIRIT LAKE - Nicole Cameron struck out 12 in two games for the Tigers in an Intermountain League sweep of the Lumberjacks.

Megan Hill singled in the first inning and came around to score the lone run of the first game on a wild pitch for the Tigers.

Cameron went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in the second game as the Tigers pounded out 16 hits.

"We finally got the bats going in that inning," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "Nicole was good again in the circle and did a good job of spacing out the hits."

Megan Cummings had two hits in the second game for St. Maries (4-4, 2-2 IML), which hosts Bonners Ferry in a doubleheader today. Tia Asbury had four strikeouts in the first game for the Lumberjacks.

Timberlake (6-7, 4-0) travels to Priest River today for a twinbill.

RATHDRUM - The host Lakeland girls and Timberlake boys claimed team titles at the annual Lakeland Relays.

Timberlake's boys had 129 points, with Freeman second with 96.

Lakeland's girls defeated Timberlake 110-101 in the six-team meet.

Field events were scored based on the top three marks in each event for each school.
