Nethercutt book signing is Friday

| April 15, 2010 9:00 PM

George Nethercutt will sign copies of his new book, "In Tune with America: Our History in Song," at The Coeur d'Alene Press, 201 N. Second St., on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Penned by the former Spokane congressman and Tom McArthur, his press secretary when he served as Washington's 5th Congressional District Representative, the book presents U.S. history using words from popular songs to portray the climate and flavor of each era.

Nethercutt, a Republican in office from 1995 to 2005, owns a cabin in Priest Lake.

The book supports Nethercutt's longtime advocacy for fostering civics literacy through education.

Nethercutt founded the George R. Nethercutt Foundation in 2008, a non-partisan, nonprofit created to support students interested in studying economics, history, politics and civic leadership. The foundation awards fellowships to college students, providing five months of academic, civics-aimed education, including two weeks in Washington, D.C.

Proceeds from sales of the book will support the foundation's efforts.
