Viks split wild pair with Bengals

BASEBALL

COEUR d'ALENE - Colin Comack's RBI double capped Coeur d'Alene's six-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Vikings defeated Lewiston 8-7 in the second game of a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader Saturday at Ted Page Field.

Drew Turbin and Devon Austin recorded RBIs before Ryan Dunton's two-run double tied the game at 7.

Johnny Rake's two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning broke an 8-all tie and lifted Lewiston (14-1, 5-1 5A IEL) past Coeur d'Alene 10-8 in the opener.

Austin's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh forced the game into extra innings. Austin also had a solo shot in the second game.

"We had two exciting baseball games today and the first one could have gone either way," Coeur d'Alene coach Nick Rook said. "Derek Priano threw great in the second game."

The Vikings (9-5, 1-1) host Post Falls on Tuesday.

St. Maries (3-8, 3-1 IML) took advantage of six Timberlake errors in the second game.

Kyle Overland and Kenny Ridgeway had two hits apiece for Timberlake (6-5, 2-2), which travels to Moscow on Monday.

Tyler Groth, Dustin Mitchem and Zach Pickering had two hits apiece for Kellogg (3-6, 1-3) in the second game.

COEUR d'ALENE - Elli Tindall had four RBIs in the second game as the Vikings split with the Bengals (10-5, 2-4 5A IEL) in 5A Inland Empire League play at Larry Schwenke Field.

In the first game, Coeur d'Alene (11-2, 1-1) left 16 runners on base, but rallied in the second game to earn a split thanks to a five-run third inning.

"We left a lot of players on the bases," Coeur d'Alene coach Larry Bieber said. "It kind of got us in trouble and they (Lewiston) opened the gates on us."

Chelsey Rasmussen was 3 for 3 with an RBI in the second game for Coeur d'Alene, which hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.

Timberlake goes 1-1 on Montana trip

LIBBY, Mont. - Nicole Cameron had 16 strikeouts on the day for the Tigers as they fell to Frenchtown 9-4 and defeated Libby 13-3 in nonleague games at Libby High.

Cameron had 10 strikeouts in a loss to Frenchtown in which the Tigers committed seven errors.

Against Libby, Sydney Malloy had a two-run double in the fourth inning for Timberlake, which also got a three-run home run by Jenna Hoffman in the top of the seventh inning.

"We seemed to step up and started to get some clutch hits," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "Our defense came to play a little bit against Libby.

Timberlake (1-7) hosts Moscow on Tuesday.

KELLOGG - Kirsten Viche's two-run single triggered a six-run first inning in the opener, and the host Wildcats went on to sweep the Spartans in IML play at Kellogg Middle School.

Michaela Stewart struck out eight in the first game, seven in the second for Kellogg (3-3, 2-2 IML). Stewart hit a two-run single in the third inning of the second game to break a 2-all tie. Jessica Layton added a two-run single to cap the six-run inning.

Dani Hawes, Tessa DeMers and Holly Hirst each had three hits on the day for Priest River (2-9, 0-2), which plays host to Lakeland on Wednesday in a doubleheader.

Jacob Bowman (100, 200, long jump) of Coeur d'Alene Charter, Colton Watt (110 hurdles, discus) of Bonners Ferry and Brian Tucker (800, high jump) and Travis Porter (high jump/triple jump) of Timberlake won multiple boys events.

Dominique Billingslea (100, 200, 400) of Coeur d'Alene Charter and Bonners Ferry senior Erin Hiatt (800, 300 hurdles) won multiple girls events. Timberlake's sprint medley team and Bonners Ferry's 4x400 relay also won.

at Mooberry Relays

SPOKANE - Post Falls' girls finished runner-up to Central Valley 78-73.5 at the Mooberry Relays at Gonzaga Prep.

Allison Meehan and Jalana White teamed to help Post Falls win the triple jump. Meehan, Shaundra Scott, Kadee Booth and Josie Tennison teamed to win the 4x100 (50.9), 4x200 (1:48.10) and sprint medley (4:39.5) relays for the Trojans.

Rebecca Bauman was second in the discus (122-8) for Post Falls. Tori Bertsch tied for second in the high jump (5-0), Booth was third in the 100 (12.9), and Kacie Shields was third in the 100 hurdles (16.1).
