SOFTBALL

LEWISTON — Richelle Ashburn struck out 11 batters in the Trojans’ 12-3 first-game win over the Bengals in their 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader Thursday at Airport Park.

Bri Joseph was 3 for 5 with two RBIs for Post Falls in the first game.

In the second game, Heidi Mueller had four RBIs, but the Trojans (6-3, 1-1 5A IEL) could not hold the lead, giving up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 6-4 loss.

Winds reached up to 30 mph, and snow flurries hit the Lewiston area by the second game, Post Falls coach Jack Foster said.

“These were some of the most miserable conditions I’ve ever played in,” Foster said. “We started to make some mental mistakes. They started to get some runs they shouldn’t have.”
