Mary Jane (Janie) Duncan left this world on April 7, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 27, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., to Keith and Lily Alway. The family moved to Long Beach, Calif., in the 1940s where she resided until the move to Idaho in 1969.

She was preceded in death by two newborn children; her parents; her identical twin sister, Betty Lou Bottum and her sister, Buddy Bridges.

Janie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gene. She is also survived by her sister, Arline Carter and brother Keith Alway; her 3 children, Jaynine Pfahler and husband Bob, Bryan Duncan and wife Terri, and Kenan J. Duncan. She also leaves behind several loved grandchildren, Bonnie Danly, Kelli Duncan, Annie Jensen, Richae Gibson, Kaela Duncan, Kenna Duncan and Kenan G. Duncan; great-grandchildren are Rhett, MacKenzie and Zachary Danly, Ashlyn Duncan, Kaile Jensen, Alex Jensen, Joshua Duncan and Noah Gibson.

Also left behind are numerous nieces and nephews, Cathy, Cindy, Mindy, Lance, Cory, John, Christy, Jennifer, Cheryl, Brad, Nancy, Randy, Laurie, Linda and their families.

Janie attended St. Thomas and St. Pius X Catholic churches. We know her faith in God has allowed her to be beside Him in heaven. All who knew Janie will remember her fun loving nature and her kind and generous spirit. She loved playing cards with her family and friends and leading the charge of “let’s go to Worley.”

Janie also had loving, lifetime friends who still live in Coeur d’Alene, Pat and Gordie Lillygren, and Emily and Chuck Land and their families.

All those who knew Janie, especially her children, will remember as one of the best mothers in the world.

Janie’s celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene.
