RATHDRUM - Gaige Gray drove a single into right field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Lakeland Hawks past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 4-3 in a 4A Inland Empire League game Wednesday.

"I was very pleased," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. "We got up early on and went kind of quiet. Sandpoint came back on us and we found a way to come back around."

Sandpoint loaded the bases in the fifth, but Lakeland reliever Kostas Garcia was able to strike out two and force a pop-up to get out of the inning without further damage.

Nick Halpin hit a two-run single in the top of the fifth for the Bulldogs (4-4), who also got eight strikeouts from starting pitcher Patrick Anthony.

Daniel Mobeck had five strikeouts in a no- decision for Lakeland (4-3, 2-0 4A IEL), which plays at Lake City today.

"It was a very good overall team effort at the plate," Lake City coach Al Bevacqua said. "Everyone through the whole lineup started stringing some hits together and we jumped on them in the first inning. Anytime you put together that many hits and runs - it's a good thing."
