Pounds leads Viking boys to title at Moscow golf invite

| April 7, 2010 9:00 PM

MOSCOW - Coeur d'Alene senior Alex Pounds shot a 3-over-par 75 to claim medalist honors on a cold afternoon at the Moscow Invitational at the University of Idaho Course on Tuesday.

"We're 0-5 on conditions for tournaments so far," Coeur d'Alene boys coach Bryan Duncan said. "We had a mild winter, so we practiced a lot. It's frustrating to get into the season and have wind, rain and snow. It's the same for everyone, so you've got to take it in stride. I'm proud of Alex (Pounds) for grinding out a medalist performance."

"Given the conditions, part of the holes were good and the others weren't," Lake City boys coach Kent Scanlon said. "Kevin (Porto) had a really good score of an 81 with some of the medalists in the high 70s. The wind chill for the first half of the tourney was 26 degrees - not golf weather, but I guess it is in North Idaho."

Hunter Kraft shot a 78 for the Coeur d'Alene JV team. Jayce Yoshida shot an 81 for Post Falls.

Complete team scores for the girls tournament were not provided.
