John William Hazel Jr., 90

John William Hazel Jr., 90, of Post Falls, died April 1, 2010, in Spokane, Wash. He was born March 14, 1920, in Portland, Ore., to John and Hazel Hazel.

John attended Walla Walla College in Washington and Reed College in Portland. He was a lab and X-ray tech at the University of Oregon Med School prior to his service in the Navy during WWII. On Oct. 23, 1943, he married Margaret Smith in Coeur d’Alene. They were married 58 years before her passing in 2001.

John worked for several doctors offices providing X-ray and lab services including Husted, Hawkins and Fox. He was hospital administrator for Coeur d’Alene General Hospital. He owned and operated the Coeur d’Alene Clinical Lab from 1959-1984 with his wife, Margaret. John was a 50-year member of the Kootenai Masonic Lodge No. 24, also the Scottish Rite and Free Masonry, Calam Temple of Lewiston Shriners.

John is survived by his two daughters, JoEllen and Bill O’Halloran of Spokane, and Janet and Jeff Amoss of Hamilton, Mont.

John is also survived by grandchildren, Molly and Jason Lesley, Patrick and Emily O’Halloran, Tim and Jen O’Halloran, Katie and Mike Sheaman, Jenelle and Chris Berthoud, Jared Amoss, Adam and Jen Hazel, Brenda Weed and Corbin Benn; and six great-grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; daughter Mary and sister Betty.

Visitation was held Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene. Graveside services followed at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
