COEUR d'ALENE - The local Arbor Day Committee has announced the winners of an art contest to design a button for Arbor Day distribution.

Lewis Ohnemus, a student at Coeur d'Alene High School, designed the winning artwork.

Ohnemus' design will be featured on a button that will be distributed along with tree seedlings to 1,700 fourth-grade students the week of April 26-30.

The buttons will also be available to the public at various local Arbor Day events.

Ohnemus will receive a check for $75, a T-shirt featuring his artwork, and a supply of Arbor Day buttons to give to family and friends.

Simmons will receive a check for $50 and buttons made from her art work.

MacKinney will receive $25 and buttons.

Button art entries will be on display at the Coeur d'Alene Arbor Day Celebration on May 1. The celebration starts at 9 a.m. at The Landings Park.
