PREP SOCCER: Win over Sandpoint gives Post Falls top seed in 5A

POST FALLS — A win over a 4A school helped the Post Falls Trojans clinch the top seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament.

How’s that?

Junior Aidan O’Halloran scored the lone goal of the match in the 49th minute, sending the Trojans past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 1-0 under the lights Tuesday night at The Fields at Real Life Ministries.

Post Falls (10-1-1) and Coeur d’Alene each finished 4-1-1 in league play, splitting their two league matches, and each tying Lake City and sweeping Lewiston during the regular season. The next tiebreaker: Post Falls went 6-0 against 4A schools and Coeur d’Alene lost to Moscow in nonleague play.

“We played really well,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “Sandpoint played defense way deeper and invited us to attack. It took us a while to break through, but sometimes you’ve got to scrap them out. The boys did what they had to do with Mckie (Gregory) out with a red card (from last Saturday’s match vs. Lake City), but the boys were able to overcome and the guys off the bench did their duties.”

Post Falls will host Lewiston in a district playoff match on Saturday.
