NIC men lead Lilac Invitational

LIBERTY LAKE — Halfway through the Lilac Invitational, North Idaho College’s two men’s golf teams are leading the two-day tournament at MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake, Wash.

Sophomore Dawson Strobel fired an even-par 70 to lead the Cardinals’ “A” team, with Ondrej Nemec and Bridger Holmes close behind with opening-round 71s. But the low NIC score of the day belongs to Tyler Jones, playing with the “B” team, who shot a 1-under 69. Among individuals, Jones trails only Whitworth’s Reilly Hegarty, who shot a 5-under 65 on Monday.

The NIC “A” team finished at 285, four shots ahead of the Cardinals’ “B” team. Whitworth is in third place at 290.

In women’s play, Lewis and Clark’s team tallied 299 (9-over-par), just ahead of Rocky Mountain (300). NIC’s “A” team is in fourth place with 344.

Zoyee Thomas was the Cardinals’ top individual, shooting 79 to tie for 11th place after one round.

Both men’s and women’s play concludes today at MeadowWood.
