NIC SOCCER: Cardinals sweep Treasure Valley

ONTARIO, Ore. — All it took was a little calm in goal for North Idaho College on Saturday afternoon.

Isaiah Damschen stopped four shots for NIC in a 2-0 win over the Treasure Valley Chukars in Northwest Athletic Conference play.

“Isaiah was very solid today,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “He played a good number of minutes for us last year and it’s good to have him back in goal. He’s such a dynamic athlete and calming presence back there. We like him for his leadership, just as much as his athleticism in goal.”

Noah Dreeves scored on an assist from Dorian Cornichuck in the 62nd minute for NIC (3-3-2, 1-1-1 NWAC), which hosts Walla Walla on Wednesday at Eisenwinter Field starting at 4:15 p.m.

“We were able to put some of our shots away and were a little more consistent at winning in the top third of the field,” said Thompson, whose team tied Blue Mountain 1-1 after a nine-day break between games. “It was nice to come up with the win.”

Treasure Valley is 0-6-2, 0-3-1.
