for tourney

FRENCHTOWN, Mont. — Matthew Whitcomb avenged a loss by pin to his Frenchtown foe earlier, beating him by major decision at 170 pounds on Friday to help the Timberwolves edge Frenchtown 33-29.

Whitcomb also had a pin against Belgrade in a 36-31 Lake City victory.

Ricky Thomas (138) won twice by pin for Lake City.

“I left a couple kids home because they were banged up, and held out three others (so they didn’t exceed their allowed match total for the regular season),” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “We had three JV kids in the lineup. I was proud of the kids, overcoming some adversity and getting a couple of wins.”

Lake City competes at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic today and Saturday in Missoula.
