Russell sentenced to life for murder
James D. Russell was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the brutal slaying of the caretaker of his family's property in Clark Fork. In her ruling, First District Judge Barbara Buchanan said the sentence was the only one possible to protect society — and James D. Russell himself — following the September 2021 murder of David M. Flaget, who worked as a caretaker of the Russell family's property in Clark Fork in September 2021.

OPINION: Pro school choice
Life is competition. Every organism on the planet, from virus to human, is the champion of a generations long struggle for the right to exist. Every product you consider, collect or consume is the result of innumerable competitive transactions. There are so many competitive transactions that must occur to produce even the simplest product that economist Milton Friedman observed, “There’s nobody in the world who knows how to make a pencil.” While pencils obviously get made, his point was no single person has the knowledge to build the tools to collect all the raw materials and then process those into a pencil.

Idaho GOP rift exposed amid water rule lawsuit
Some top Idaho officials are raising alarms after the state's Republican attorney general declined to join a 24-state lawsuit against Biden administration waterway protections. Opponents say the new water rules could impact public and private land across the state. Instead, Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador's office says the state will soon join a lawsuit filed in Texas. He says it's a better fit for the state's interests. The decision surprised some state leaders. Idaho Governor Brad Little recently led the multistate coalition of Republican governors opposing the new rules, which restore federal protection to thousands of small streams, wetlands and other waterways.
