Catherine Roe Jackson, 75
Catherine Roe Jackson, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed peacefully into eternity on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019. She was born to Robert James and Dorothy Pearl Jackson, on April 23, 1944, in Spokane, Wash. Cathy was the middle of five children, which included her “big brother” Stuart (Elaine); beloved sisters, Jane and Mary (Greg) and her younger brother, Steve (Barby). Her parents and her sister, Jane, preceded her in death.
She graduated from Mead High School in 1963. In 1966, Cathy married Doug Bailey in Coeur d’Alene. They had two sons, Douglas James and Michael David.
Outgoing and fun-loving, Cathy hardly ever met a stranger. Though she only had two biological children, many people called her “Mom” and kept in touch with her through the years. Everywhere Cathy went, she made friends. Even in her last weeks of life, friends, both old and new, surrounded her.
A country girl at heart, she loved riding horses and sitting at night around the campfire, spending time with family and playing cards or board games. Mom found happiness in simple things, and was always ready with a smile or a laugh. She enjoyed big meals with family and was especially proud of her five granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and a great-grandson on the way.
Quick to dance to an Elvis song, spend a night watching spooky movies, or travel to the Coeur d’Alene Casino, she lived every moment with a simple joy. She faced many hardships in life but was always quick to say, “I’m tough; we Jacksons are tough.” She proved that to be true. Those who loved her were consistently amazed at her resolve to persevere and to enjoy life.
Once a year she took a trip to Las Vegas to spend time with her sister, Mary. She swam in her pool and they went out on the town to the Rainbow Club Casino, spending time as only two sisters can. She spent the last 11 years living at Heritage Place (now called The Grove). She truly loved her corner apartment, all the activities, and the many friends she made. Heritage gave her a safe place where she could thrive and enjoy life. Most of all, it gave her a home where her family could go to enjoy time being with her. For that, we will always be grateful.
Cathy is survived by her three siblings and their spouses; two sons, Douglas (Heidi) and Michael (Jenna); five granddaughters, Katie Bailey, Miranda Bailey, Larissa Bailey, Grace Bailey and Allie Bailey; and two great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Kayzen.
Her family is grateful for her many caregivers over the years and Hospice House of North Idaho.
She is already missed tremendously, but we are happy to think that she is in heaven with her Heavenly Father, and may be dancing with her forever favorite, Elvis.
