Linda White Gust Smith, 71

Sept. 6, 1947 — May 23, 2019

Born in Kellogg, Idaho, and a lifelong resident of Northern Idaho, Linda White Gust Smith, of Post Falls, passed from this life at the Schneidmiller Hospice House on May 23, 2019.

Linda is survived by her spouse, Peter Smith; her children, Larry “Todd” Bartlett, Kingston, Idaho, Lynette (John) Ferguson, Cataldo, Idaho, Ryan Bartlett, Athol, Idaho, Staci (Dennis) Simpson of Athol, Idaho, Coleen Gust-Sovenski, Coeur d’Alene, and Ron Gust, Wallace, Idaho; her grandchildren, Jessica (Darin) Meenderinck, Justin Bartlett, Houston Bartlett, Travis (Chelsie) Simpson, Kaitlynn (Jared) Booth, Courtney Simpson, Chelsee (Hobert) Whisman, Ashley (Tyler) Sanders and Joe Hoffer; as well as three great-grandchildren, Hazel, Nora and Miller Meenderinck. Her sisters are Margie Jesson, Livingston, Mont., and Paula Harrison-Jones, Grand Cane, La.

Linda was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Nathan Dean Bartlett; her parents, Homer and Dorothy White; and sister, Wanda Rickett.

Linda graduated from the North Idaho College Nursing program in 1977 and worked for a number of doctors and hospitals over the years.

She will always be remembered and loved for her sympathetic ear and caring heart, which was not diminished by her painful, long-standing illnesses. Her family was her passion. In her younger years, she regularly joined them in camping, trail riding and huckleberry picking. Continuing a Richardson family tradition, she loved to sit around a campfire in the evening and roast her sisters along with the marshmallows. Some of her last words and smiles were spent sharing her favorite memories about childhood events. Her humor while experiencing pain and suffering will always be a source of inspiration to those who knew her well.

Linda will be sorely missed; nevertheless, sad goodbyes were mingled with hope as she sang her last song to the accompaniment of Pastor Tod Hornby on guitar, while anticipating a glad reunion with her family in heaven.

A memorial service will be held for Linda at 4 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2019, at the Country Barn B&B Event Center at 18500 S. Lane Road, Cataldo, ID 83810.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Idaho-Schneidmiller Hospice House, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815. Yates Funeral Homes is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
