John Sylvester Fay, 82

John Sylvester Fay, 82, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018.

Born into an Irish family from Brooklyn, N.Y., “Johnny Boy” entered this world on March 31, 1936, the only son of Jacob and Martha Fay.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jeannette Marie Fay; daughter, Jenee Weirick and spouse, Rick of Rathdrum, Idaho; son, Jon Fay and spouse, Laura of Astoria, Ore.; four grandchildren, Aubrey Weirick, Terren Weirick, Rowan Fay and Maia Fay; and his sister, Jean Demars of Flushing, N.Y.

He will always be remembered, not only for his kind loving nature, but his quick wit and amazing sense of humor as well. John never met a stranger and was a true friend to all. He was a giving man and was there when needed without question.

John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He served in Korea and Vietnam, retiring after a full 20-year career.

After the military, he went on to fulfill a second retirement as the head of the Victor Valley School District’s Maintenance and Operations Department, in Victorville, Calif.

John was a devout Catholic with an avid dedication to the Knights of Columbus. He served as Grand Knight for the St. George Council, District Deputy and other distinctive positions within the Knights of Columbus

John was instrumental in starting the St. George Annual Benefit Golf Tournament in 2016 through the St. George Knights of Columbus. This year was the third annual golf tournament, and in his illness, he was able to attend for a brief time. He was also an avid Seahawk fan and was able to watch a last game on Sunday with his nephew, Dan. John and his wife Jeannette also participated in the North Idaho Catholic Youth Camp for 10 years, from its inception in 2006. These were all his delight and close to his heart.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at St. George’s Catholic Church, 2010 N. Lucas St., Post Falls, ID 83835. A reception will follow.
