PREP ROUNDUP: Post Falls football comeback falls short

| September 29, 2024 1:10 AM

FOOTBALL

SNOHOMISH, Wash. — What was shaping up as a runaway nearly turned into an amazing comeback Saturday afternoon.

Post Falls gave up 40 points in the first half before stiffening on defense, then had the ball late in the fourth quarter with a chance to win before falling 47-42 to the Glacier Peak Grizzlies at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Isaac McKeown passed for five touchdowns and rushed for one for Post Falls (4-1), which trailed 40-14 at halftime. Trenton McLean and Jace Ostlund each caught two TD passes for the Trojans.

“That first half, we just couldn’t get any stops on defense, and we gave up a special teams touchdown,” Post Falls coach Blaine Bennett said. “Offensively we had too many three-and-outs. But the coaches did a great job at halftime reorganizing. Really proud of the players; a lot of players would have quit, down 40-14 at halftime. The players did a great job getting stops, we got a couple turnovers, ran a fake punt, and we made some plays offensively.”

Lucas Entler threw five touchdown passes for Glacier Peak (4-0), three to Isaiah Olson. Michael Darling had a TD catch and a kickoff return for a score.

“Glacier Peak has some excellent athletes; they’ve got some guys that could really run,” said Bennett, citing the play of linebacker Alexander Dean in the second half. "We brought some pressure in the second half.”

Post Falls plays host to Battle Ground (Wash.) on Friday.

Camryn had a phenomenal day, Taylor ran a dynamic offense, Jess was reliable and athletic as always, and overall just a lot to be excited about across the board with how we’re growing as a team.”

Lakeland, in pool play, beat Colfax 25-13, 25-19, Southridge 25-18, 25-21 and Eastmont 25-18, 18-25, 15-9.

I was really happy with our defense today. Rylie Gump and Tiffany Foxx had some big blocks and Lucy Carr and Zuri Blood did a great job of running our offense. We ran into a real scrappy Kennewick team in tournament play that was picking up everything we hit at them. I am really happy with what we saw today.”

SANDPOINT — Junior Huxley Hall recorded two goals and an assist as the host Bulldogs scored three first-half goals in an Inland Empire League win over the Bengals at War Memorial Field.

During the first 15 seconds, Sandpoint trailed 1-0 after an own goal, but bounced back with goals in the fifth, 13th, and 18th minutes before giving one up in the 64th.

“It was a bizarre own goal that you only see once in a blue moon — a back pass we miscommunicated on,” Sandpoint coach Dan Anderson said. “That put us on the back foot immediately, but I like the way we responded and I felt like we were building and growing into the game.”

Hall scored the first two on assists from sophomore Knox Williams and freshman Pax Longanecker. Junior Jasey Treman netted his first goal of the season on an assist from Hall to give Sandpoint the 3-1 lead.

“As we got tired, concentration started to lack and we didn’t capitalize on many of the chances we had,” coach Anderson said. “Credit to them (Lewiston), they’re a group that sticks together and works hard for each other. If you let a team like that stick together, you’re in hairy situations like we were today. Happy with the result, but today’s a day where you see a lot of things you need to work on, so you’re excited to get back on the practice field.”
