MOSCOW — Senior running back Lovie Weil scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with nine minutes remaining as the Lakeland Hawks scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to beat the Moscow Bears 35-7 in a nonleague game at Bear Field on Thursday.

The game was moved up a day due to an officials’ shortage in the District 2 (Central Idaho) area.

“The kids played really well and executed the game plan really well,” said Lakeland acting head coach Rick Anderson, a Hawks assistant who stepped in for Mike Schroeder, who, along with offensive coordinator Tony Porter, were suspended for the game. “We were able to control the game on the ground as Moscow likes to throw the ball.”

Defensive coordinator Tim Kiefer and assistant coach Al Bevacqua made up the game plan this week, with Kiefer calling the plays, Anderson said.

Lakeland, which led 14-7 at halftime, increased the lead to 28-7 on an interception return by Landon Burmeister less than a minute after Weil’s score.

Lakeland closed out the win on a 35-yard touchdown run by junior Peyton Sardinha.

“All the coaches had a role and did their job tonight,” Anderson said.

Lakeland (4-2) travels to district rival Timberlake next Friday.

Moscow (5-1) hosts Lethbridge, Alberta, next Friday.

Lakeside 66

Genesee 28

GENESEE — Trailing 8-6 early in the second quarter, the visiting Knights scored four touchdowns in the final 8:30 to build a 36-8 halftime lead, and cruised past the Bulldogs in a nonleague game moved up a day due to a shortage of officials in District 2.

Jarius SiJohn-Moffitt scored on a 5-yard run, then ran in the two-point conversion to put Lakeside (4-0) a 14-8 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Tyson Charley of Lakeside popped the ball loose from the Genesee kick returner, caught it and raced 35 yards for a touchdown and a 22-8 lead.

Braydon Greensky caught a TD pass from Charley in the second quarter, then threw a TD pass to Charley in the third quarter.

Genesee is 3-2

Lakeside plays host to Deary next Friday at the Marimn Health Coeur Center in Worley.

“Our girls were awesome with Ella our low round,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. “We brought a slightly different lineup today as several girls had to stay back in Coeur d’Alene, but I could not be prouder of the group that played today. These girls gained tons of experience and learned an abundance of knowledge about the course that will host state here in a few weeks.
