Carol L. May, 79

| March 24, 2024 1:00 AM

Carol May passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Carol was born in Orofino, Idaho, on Aug. 19, 1944, to Lee and Aretha Chilton. Carol graduated from Orofino High School in 1962 and went on to attend the University of Idaho. It was there that she reconnected with her childhood friend Larry May. Carol and Larry married in November 1964 (just celebrated 59 years). After they both graduated from the University of Idaho, Carol and Larry moved to Bozeman, Mont., for a year and then to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In September of 1969, they made Post Falls their permanent home and purchased a house. It was there that they raised their two children and enjoyed summers on the water.

Carol worked as a social worker for the State of Idaho Department of Health and Welfare before retiring in the early 2000s. Carol had a love for crafts, including crocheting, scrapbooking, wire wrapping pendants, and beadwork. Over the last few years, Carol enjoyed selling her jewelry at craft shows, where she enjoyed talking to people about what she made and the stones used. Carol also enjoyed riding ATVs and side by side's.  Initially, Carol and Larry rode on sand dunes. Carol loved going fast and was very adventurous and she quickly earned the name Crashina. Eventually, they switched to a calmer territory of mountain trails and roads. Carol and Larry enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona, where they often spent time searching for rocks. In fact, everywhere Carol went, she was looking for that one special rock. Usually, she would hide her finds so Larry didn’t know how much weight had been added to the RV Trailer.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Aretha Chilton, and her brother, Dick, and son-in-law Scott Lunz. She is survived by her husband, Larry, sister Kay Jacobs, daughter Jaime Lunz, son Brian (wife Tracey), granddaughter Amanda and grandson Caleb, along with cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is missed by all who knew and loved her, but we know she has found her eternal home with the Lord.

There will be a celebration of life for Carol on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the River of Life Friends Church located at 3263 E. 12th Ave., Post Falls, Idaho, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
