BUDDY POPPY: Veterans moved by boy’s generosity
The Buddy Poppy program has been essential to the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 100 years. It’s how we raise money for our veteran relief fund. The money we raise is only used for helping local veterans in need and the VFW National Children’s Home.
We sincerely appreciate every cent we receive as well as the words and smiles we exchange with everyone. And while we appreciate everyone in our community, we have to give a special thank you to a mother and son who visited our booth at Fred Meyer on Veterans Day.
The mother dropped a substantial donation in our bucket and then her son asked if he could donate the contents of his piggy bank, which he had in their car. With his mother’s approval, he cracked open the piggy bank and donated $61 in change! We are so moved and so respectful of this young man and his mother. We thank you so much! You are the reason soldiers fight.
