NIC BOARD: Voters want an explanation
The NIC board majority wants to create new procedures for evaluating President Swayne’s performance, perhaps to make it easier to find cause for firing him — again. Since voters have authority over the board, it is time to evaluate their performance before their future elections and for consideration of all KCRCC vetted candidates. Evaluation categories could include the following.
Fiscal Prudence — unsatisfactory
The board majority has carelessly wasted huge amounts of money on legal costs for negligent hiring and firing of attorneys, presidents and acting presidents. Without worthy purpose or explanation, they have also committed excessive funding to develop more prominent athletic programs. Their reckless decisions have significantly increased the cost of liability insurance and undermined the financial status of the college.
Leadership — unsatisfactory
The board majority’s inept leadership has eroded institutional direction and purpose. This has resulted in the loss of exceptional employees and a decline in student enrollment.
Communication — unsatisfactory
The board majority avoids questions or discussions about their plans and actions and mostly ignore the organized concerns of students, faculty, staff and the community.
Accountability — unsatisfactory
The board majority remains unaccountable for the huge errors they have made. They are insulated from the consequences for wasteful spending and lost revenue. They may be responsible for lost accreditation but will personally sacrifice only their board positions if that occurs.
Comments
The board majority has repeatedly tried to remove the highly qualified and respected presidents who have been motivated and capable in leading NIC toward fulfilling the needs of the community. The board majority obviously wants something different. We, the voters demand an explanation.
