Inga Laura (Evenson) Hammeren, 99

Sept. 17, 1919 — Feb. 20, 2019

Inga was born to Oscar and Marie (Hagen) Evenson in Dodson, Mont. The family moved to Priest River, Idaho, in June of 1932.

Inga married Aldon Oliver Hammeren on Jan. 23, 1937, and remained married until his death in January of 1999. They had four children: Elena, Laura, James and Linda.

In 1953, they purchased a dairy farm in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. After selling the dairy in 1963, Inga worked outside of the home, retiring from Pinewood Retirement Home.

Inga was a member of the Sons of Norway, serving as treasurer for the lodge. She was a skilled seamstress and was known as the “Quilt Lady.” She had great pleasure making lap quilts, afghans, baby quilts, hats, mittens and doll clothes, which she gave to family, friends, senior centers, men and women’s homeless shelters, Coeur d’Alene Hospital and Athol Food Bank.

Inga’s favorite hobbies included bowling, playing bingo and going to the Coeur d’Alene Casino. She was a strong supporter of women’s rights and hoped to see a woman president elected in her lifetime.

The greatest joy in Inga’s life was her family. She always thought of her loved ones before herself, doing things for them in hopes to make their lives easier. She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments, which can be attributed to her love and care.

Inga is preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband; daughter, Lena and two grandsons.

She is survived by two daughters, her son, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Inga was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and woman. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Inga’s online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
