PF POLICE: Give their time to Cub Scouts pack

I would like to send a “Thank You” to the Post Falls Police Department. Officers Torres and Roberts gave their time to my Cub Scouts from Pack No. 220 with a tour of the police station and their patrol cars and the equipment they use daily to help our community. Officers K. Torres and N. Roberts were great! Very much appreciated!

Thank You!

FEAST: Raises $20K for children, their families

Family Promise North Idaho celebrating more than a decade of providing help and hope to homeless children and their families in North Idaho.

Thank you to all the people who helped FPNI raise $20,000 to help and give hope to homeless children and their families at the NW Fest and Salmon Feast Saturday, Feb. 9.

The sponsors of the event were: Hayden Lake Level Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty; Spirit Lake Level Sarah and Shawn Swanby; and Idaho Forest Group; Fernan Lake Sponsor AVISTA Foundation; Brian Goetz State Farm Insurance; and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The evening started with people mingling, laughing and bidding on silent auction items. Items and support were donated by many people so our gratitude is huge. Thank you to: A to Z Rental; Action Printers; bankcda; Beauty Bay Winery; Best Tire; Bev and Steve Moss; Bev Roots; Black Sheep Sporting Goods; Bruce King; Coeur d’Alene Symphony; Cindy Algeo and Ken Eppler; Coeur d’Alene Police Department; Colleen and Tom Mick; Costco; Deb Roope; Donna Bain; Donna Grabenstein; Donna and Mark Stambaugh; Fins & Feathers; Fort Ground Grill; Hamm Swim School; IIB; Jacqueline Rose Smith; Jennifer Riggs Drake; Jill and Bill Dougherty; Jill and Richard Jurvelin; Judith Farrey; June and Russ VanHorne; Koerner Furniture; Lee McDaniel; LeeAnn Freshour; Leslie Landwehr; Litehouse Blue Cheese Factory; Linda and Chuck Ryan; Marie and Dennis Brendan; Marmalade; Marty Meyer; Maxed Media; Mountain West; Nicole and Conor Hammons; Numerica Credit Union; Office Max; O’Reilly Auto Parts; P1FCU; Pam Kiefer; Pastry & More; Reform CDA; Rev. Daniel Forsgren; Roland Curtis; Sally Richards; Shannon Erwin; Sharon Agee and David Schreiber; Silverwood; S.O.A.R.I.N.G Inc.; Spirit Art Gallery; St. Luke’s Episcopal Church; Susan Nipp; Sweetwater Bakery; Teri and Bill Burch; Well Read Moose.

Master of Ceremonies, Jennifer Riggs Drake, welcomed the crowd. Reverend Daniel Forsgren from Trinity Lutheran Church gave the invocation. FPNI Executive Director Cindy Wood spoke about the things happening at FPNI.

The first part of the evening was an exciting paddle raise! LeeAnn Freshour led an appeal for explicit funds that would help families starting at $1,000 and continuing to the $25. The many people giving cannot be listed in this limited space, but it was a fast and wonderful paddle raising for help with car repairs, insurance, uniforms, education, shoes, socks, on down to school supplies. For these donors, we are grateful.

Dinner was created by Greenbriar; choice of poached salmon or chicken, green beans, salad and rolls. As we ate our dinner, a video testimony from former guests was screened. This couple had been through a hurricane and lost the camper they were living in. They gave testament to the grace of having Family Promise of North Idaho as a new starting point. Thank you for the lovely buffet by Greenbriar.

After dinner, the live auction began and there were incredible things to bid on. Our gratitude goes out to: Duane and Lola Hagadone for their donation of the Hagadone estate garden tour and lunch at Beverly’s; Adventure Kayak for their donation of a Pungo 120 Kayak; Mike Wood and his colleagues from Post Falls Parks Department to work for six hours on a Saturday at the winner’s home; Pinkerton Retirement Specialists, LLC and their donation of A Night at the Museum and catered dinner; and a donation of his art work by Arlon Rosenoff.

Door prizes, music and dancing ended the evening. A big thank you goes out to the band Desert Rose for their music and line dancing instruction. All of this could not be done without the event committee and the FPNI staff.

What is better than an evening of good food, fun, dancing and prizes to help homeless children and their families transform their lives.

Sincerely,

TERI BURCH, Family Promise North Idaho volunteer

CDAIDE: Helping hospitality workers

The 2019 CDAIDE Care Affair that took place Thursday, Feb. 7 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort was a wonderful evening thanks to so many of you in our community. CDAIDE is the new nonprofit in Coeur d’Alene that serves those working in Coeur d’Alene area restaurants and hotels by providing resources and emergency financial assistance, as well as building positive relationships. We were able to earn more than $34,000 that will go directly to help local hospitality workers in crisis in this next year. We certainly couldn’t have done it without our many volunteers who worked tirelessly for weeks before the event, but the entire community of Coeur d’Alene joined forces to make the Care Affair a success.

Thanks go especially to our premier sponsors: Sysco Spokane, Food Services of America, The Coeur d’Alene Resort and First Presbyterian Church.

We are so grateful to the talented chefs who created the fabulous appetizers that were enjoyed before dinner: Laurent Zirotti from Fleur de Sel; Bill Hilbish from Black Rock; David Adlard from Candle in the Woods and Alec Tompkins from The Lodge at Carlin Bay. The chefs also generously donated dinner for eight to be prepared in the homes of those who won their services in our live auction.

Thanks also go to Eddy Bruns and his staff at The Coeur d’Alene Resort for coordinating the event, Kay Viebrock and Mountain West Bank for managing the financial piece, Cheryl Burchell Goldsmiths for the Idaho opal necklace that was raffled, Steve Balas from 1st Pres Downtown for designing the programs, Cally King at The Coeur d’Alene Resort for designing the invitations, Mary Jo Rawlsky of MaJoR Images for the photography, Echo Elysium for the music, and the countless businesses and individuals who contributed silent auction items that were bid on by our generous guests.

Table sponsors the night of the event included The Lodge at Carlin Bay, Kootenai Title, Champion Concrete Pumping, Iain and Debbie Smith, Chris and Linda Filios, Suzanne Marshall and Mike Mulvinny, the family of Annette Hickman, and John and Tracey Tindall.

Thanks again, Coeur d’Alene, for continuing to show your compassion and concern for those who work in the hospitality industry and who sometimes need a little extra support from their friends and neighbors.
