Lake City battles, falls to Lewiston
LEWISTON — Sophomore Jack Kiesbuy scored a game-high 23 points for Lake City, which put up a good fight before falling to the Lewiston Bengals 50-46 in 5A Region 1 tournament loser-out game at Booth Hall on Thursday.
“Jack was just fantastic tonight,” Lake City assistant coach Kelly Reed said. “All of his points were well-earned and he just battled tonight. He showed up tonight and played a great game.”
Lake City led the game — postponed on Tuesday due to inclement weather and again on Wednesday after Lewiston canceled school — 18-15 at halftime.
“We executed really well defensively and the kids were fantastic with the game plan,” Reed said. “We were super solid defensively the entire night, but they made some shots when they needed to. We had a four-minute stretch in the third/fourth quarter where it kind of got away from us, but we played hard overall. It’s a tough way to go out, but we were really, really proud of the kids effort. They did what we needed them to do, but just didn’t make enough shots.”
Lake City finishes 3-17.
Joel Mullikin scored 11 points for Lewiston (10-12), which hosts Coeur d’Alene tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the tournament’s second-place game. Tonight’s winner advances to a state play-in game against Capital High of Boise on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Grangeville.

Game 3 is back at Troy starting at 1 p.m.
“It was a pretty good game and evenly matched for three quarters,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “They definitely got us on the boards tonight. We missed a few key ones, and never quite recovered.”
