CHART: Insult to the intelligent
To evaluate media bias, the citizens of Kootenai County do not need a chart from an unknown Denver lawyer. The fact that Ms. Otero places news sources such as The New York Times, the three major networks and Time magazine in the “neutral” category, tells us all we need to know about her “unbiased” methods. There is more than whether or not opinion is offered as a variable as to whether news is biased; more important is what news is chosen to be covered.
I’ll share examples. When Gov. Ralph Northam (D) of Virginia recently made his appalling comments regarding late term abortion and infanticide, only one of the three major networks even mentioned it. When President Obama separated parents and children at the border, it was ignored; the Trump administration continued the policy and it was vilified.
I do not think there is an “unbiased” way to diagnose bias; therefore, the onus is on each individual to search for truth as best one can and NOT rely on any one source of news or even worse a chart; even one given top billing by the Coeur d’Alene Press. We subscribe to The Press because we like to get the local news: find out what is happening in our town; not attempts by journalists to use the power of their platform to sway minds one way or the other politically. Trust our intelligent local population. Please do not insult us with this chart.
