CDA: Vote 'no' on request
I was once a public school teacher after a career in the Air Force and a commercial airline. Here are some facts about the endless demands for funding from school districts.
1. Funding has little to do with excellent districts — leadership does.
2. One third of Coeur d’Alene High School “graduates” cannot read at grade level.
3. Endless “additional” financial support for poorly functioning school systems is highly questionable.
4. District 271 elections take place on the campus of the district’s schools. Therefore, a very small percentage of non-teachers vote at these elections — thus guaranteeing endless approvals of levies and bonds. Such sweetheart deals are nurtured by politicians. “Our” Senator Souza is well aware of these statewide “voting gifts” to education — and politicians.
In spite of rhetoric, teachers and administrators promote never ending additional funding. It keeps them in their jobs. My experience: Teachers vote their pocketbook over quality education. New teachers should make a far better salary. Example: I receive a retirement after having taught for only five years. A review of the retirement funding for Coeur d’Alene teachers and administrators should be independently audited and reported to the community.
These facts are well-known by the Coeur d’Alene Press, school administrators, politicians and teachers. Far better academic preparation of Coeur d’Alene kids is critical, yet huge indicators of academic apathy and money grubbing prevails in District 271.
Much Better Schools Before any More Levy Money — Vote NO.
