Cardinal men clinch East title

COEUR d’ALENE — Alphonso Anderson had 30 points and 11 rebounds to power North Idaho College to a 96-67 win over the Community Colleges of Spokane, clinching the Northwest Athletic Conference’s East Region title at Rolly Williams Court on Wednesday night.
NIC (25-2, 14-0 NWAC) won the East Region in 2017, its first season in the conference after moving down from the NJCAA following the 2016 season.
RayQuan Evans had 23 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for NIC, which led 54-31 at halftime.
Tanner McCliment-Call, a Post Falls High product, had 15 points and four rebounds for Spokane (18-9, 9-5), the third-place team in the region. Walla Walla (17-10, 11-3) is second. The top four in each region advance to the NWAC Championships.
NIC returns to action at Yakima Valley on Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Alivia Williams had 18 points and three steals, Lake City High product Keara Simpson 16 points and 13 rebounds, leading the Cardinals past the Sasquatch in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Rolly Williams Court.
Spokane (16-10, 5-9 NWAC) led 34-26 at halftime before being outscored 22-9 in the third quarter as NIC (19-7, 9-5) took a 48-43 lead.
Heidi Sellman scored 16 points for NIC, which travels to Yakima Valley on Saturday. NIC can lock up a playoff spot with a win over Yakima Valley (16-10, 7-7) on Saturday.
Koyama Young scored 19 points for Spokane.
