Thomas ‘Tom’ Alexander, 53
Tom Alexander passed away Feb. 14, 2019.
On Dec. 21, 2018, Tom was diagnosed with two inoperable brain tumors. Tom lived the time he had left on his own terms, just as he lived his life. He did not suffer and had little to no pain. He was surrounded every day by his family and so many friends who loved and respected him.
Tom was born in Santa Monica, Calif., to Pam and Jim Alexander. He is the older brother to Patti, Tim and Matt. Tom married Angela Preager in Santa Monica in 1992, and they had just celebrated their 26 year anniversary this last December. Their only child, Rebecca, age 25, moved her wedding up nine months and married Thomas Walker on Jan. 1, 2019, so her father could walk her down the aisle.
Tom attended St. Monica High School in Santa Monica. After graduating in 1984 he joined the Coast Guard Reserves, where he served two years before being offered his dream job in 1987 with the Santa Monica Police Department. Tom continued to serve in the department until he and his young family moved to Hayden Lake, Idaho, in 1993. In 1999 they decided to move to Post Falls, Idaho, where they’ve lived for the past 20 years.
Tom joined the Kootenai County Sheriff Marine Division in 2004 and after six years of service, he decided to leave marine patrol to help run his wife’s business, The Coffee Cottage, in Post Falls.
Tom was a strong community supporter of the local police department and school district. He was a true public servant and a proud American.
Tom loved snowmobiling, boating, camping and hunting, but mostly he loved spending time with his family and his two pups, Brodie and Sarge.
He is survived by his mother, Pam and her husband, Bill; father, Jim; wife, Angie; daughter, Rebecca and son-in-law, Thomas; brother, Tim and his wife; sister, Patti; brother, Matt and his wife; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins and a list of friends that are as close as family.
Tom was a social man and a loyal friend. He was humble, honest, trustworthy, and a devoted husband and father. He was a brave man, he was a tower of strength and a born protector. Those who knew him respected and loved him deeply.
In lieu of flowers, Tom would want to be honored in memory with a donation to our local Post Falls Police Department Canine Unit, Kootenai County Marine Patrol or Search and Rescue.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at Pope St. Pius X Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
