Sutton Johnston, 49
Sutton Nicole (Bussey) Johnston, 49, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, in her mother’s home, surrounded by those who loved her most. She was delivered safely into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, after a long and valiant battle with ovarian cancer. Sutton was born to Marilyn Louise (Stork) Bussey of Post Falls, Idaho, and the late Roger Lowell Bussey, on Oct. 9, 1969, in Portland, Ore.
Sutton was a 1988 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School and North Idaho College. She became a Christian as a young woman. On Dec. 2, 2001, Sutton married Keith Johnston. One year later the greatest blessing of her entire life entered the world, her daughter, Marissa Nicole Johnston.
She was a member of Coeur d’Alene Church of the Nazarene. Her faith and her Church were of great importance to her, and a continual source of strength. If you asked Sutton what her greatest accomplishment was, she would definitely say being Marissa’s mother.
Sutton enjoyed all types of crafting and was an especially talented in cross-stitching. She worked tirelessly on gifts for others, even with her hands numb from years of chemotherapy. Those fortunate enough to have known Sutton always use the same words to describe her: “good,” “kind,” “sweet,” “meek” and “loving.” Through all of her grueling treatments the smile never left her face. She was truly a unique and exceptional person who was a shining example of God’s grace. She leaves an enormous void in the hearts of her family that cannot be filled until we meet again!
Sutton is survived by her husband, Keith Johnston, and daughter, Marissa of Coeur d’Alene; her best shopping buddy and caregiver, her mother, Marilyn Bussey of Post Falls; her sister, Simone (Tom) Nichols of Dillon, Mont.; her cousin, Carole Hudson of Post Falls; her sister-in-law, Beverly (Alan) Hines of Boise, Idaho; her sister-in-law, JoAnne (Rick) Davies of Newport Beach, Calif.; her brother-in-law, Craig Johnston of Jacksonville, N.C.; along with three nieces, six nephews, one great-niece and one great-nephew.
There will be a celebration of Sutton’s life at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at Coeur d’Alene Church of the Nazarene, 4000 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. There will be fellowship and refreshments following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Sutton’s honor to American Cancer Society or Hospice of North Idaho.
Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
