5A Region 1 boys basketball

tourney starts tonight

No. 1 seed Post Falls (15-6) plays host to No. 4 Lake City (3-15), and No. 3 Coeur d’Alene (12-6) travels to No. 2 Lewiston (9-11) as the 5A Region 1 boys basketball tournament tips off tonight.

Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Tonight’s winners play Tuesday at 6:30 at the higher seed for the regional championship and a trip to state. Tonight’s losers play Tuesday at 6:30 at the higher seed in a loser-out game. The two remaining teams meet next Thursday for second place and a berth in a state play-in game Feb. 23 in Grangeville.

State-qualifying wrestling

tournaments set for Saturday

RATHDRUM — Wrestling berths to state in 5A, 4A and 3A will be on the line Saturday at Lakeland High.

Wrestling on four mats is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

The finals are set for approximately 3:15 p.m.

The top three finishers in 5A and 3A, and the regional champion in 4A, automatically qualify for state. At-large berths are also available in all three classifications.
